There are a lot of steps but it is really not as complicated as it looks!!!!
Crust:
2 ½ cups flour
3 tbsp sugar
2 sticks margarine
2 egg yolks
2 tbsp water
Mix everything together. Preheat oven to 375 Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper and spread crust in the pan. Chill pan for about 20 minutes. While waiting for crust to chill you can start making the other parts. When crust is finished chilling turn oven down to 350 and cook for 20 minutes. You can put dry beans or something in crust to cook if you would like but I did it without and just made a few holes in my crust to make the crust not bubble.
Filling:
7 or 8 big apples
4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp water
Core and slice apples (and peel if you would like) put in a pan over a high fire and mix with sugar, cinnamon and water. Cook until apples are soft.
Cool apples for a few minutes and cool crust for a few minutes. When both are a little cool pour apples over crust and spread them evenly.
Custard:
(I made the custard this time but I think next time I would skip because you couldn’t even see or taste it once it was all cooked so it’s basically just a waste but it’s up to you. If you don’t make the custard I would suggest putting in the crust and apples for about 10-15 minutes to cook a little if you do make the custard make the custard and then put it in the oven)
2 eggs
2 tbsp sugar
¾ cup heavy cream
Whip this up and then pour over apples and crust. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes or until custard is all set.
Topping:
1 cup flour
4 tbsp brown sugar
½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1 stick cold diced butter
2 tbsp cinnamon
I mixed this all together in the mixer and then it turns into a dough and then chilled it a little and then the recipe tells you to grate it over the apples/custard but I don’t even think I own a grater so I just broke it up into little pieces and put it over my cake! It’s up to you what you want to do! Then once the topping is on the cake put it back in the oven for about 15-20 minutes.
